Only the northernmost part of the Baltic Sea ever freezes. The sea passage between St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad is wide open all year.

    Yes.

How many ships does Russia have in that region capable of shipping supplies and how many tons can they move? Is it sufficient to replace the rail line?

Even if Russia does a blockade is a war act. It seems Russia is responding against all EU countries by selling them less fuel, less food and less fertilizer at higher prices.
Call your state legislators and insist they approve the Article V convention of States to propose amendments.

    Update from the weekend.

Alexander Lukashenko, the self-proclaimed President of Belarus, has said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin that the blockade on the transit of some goods to Kaliningrad is "akin to a declaration of war".

    ***

Quote from Lukashenko: "We are very concerned by the situation and the policy being pursued by our neighbours. You know in general terms: this is the leadership of Poland and the leadership of Lithuania. The policy [is aimed - UP] at confrontation… And there is enough of that, especially in Ukraine.

These days most of the mercenaries are from Poland. I don’t understand why they need this confrontation. But it’s clear that they are behind this and pushing it, and so on. But the policy is abhorrent and the behaviour is aggressive.

It’s the same with Lithuania. There is a growing flow of information about their plan to suspend transit from Russia through Belarus to Kaliningrad, to isolate Kaliningrad. Well, listen, that’s akin to a declaration of war! That sort of thing is unacceptable in the current conditions."

I think one low yield nuclear weapon burst in the center of the EU headquarters mid-morning would have a salutary effect. I think 0.1 to 0.25kt would send just the right message.

Check it out. This one is actively advocating for the destruction of western democracies. That's some serious fascist devotion.

Destroying the EU headquarters with its hive of mindless bureaucrats would substantially improve democracy, whatever that is.

They should be trying to deescalate.

EU May Be Trying to Defuse Kaliningrad Standoff With Eased Rules

Some European countries are raising concerns that the European Union is trying to pressure Lithuania into watering down the bloc’s sanctions to allow some banned goods to transit through its territory to Russia’s Baltic exclave Kaliningrad, according to people familiar with the matter.

I wonder who would have done this? Russia.

Cyberattack hits Lithuania after sanctions feud with Russia

A cyberattack temporarily knocked out public and private websites in Lithuania, the country's Defense Minister said Monday, with a pro-Moscow hacker group reportedly claiming responsibility.
