The Army is good at wasting time and money over relatively trivial matters. When this debate made my radar, about 8 years ago I said keep the current (now old) PT test for non-combat troops, and use the enhanced test for combat troops. Easy, cheap fix.
Now they want to create a new test for combat troops. And they took out one of the more effective events from the new test- the hanging knee tuck. Like this, except raise your knees all the way to your face.
They took it out because female soldiers consistently failed that event. I have incorporated it into my routine and fine it to be a superior core workout.
The Army Could Soon Have An Extra Physical Fitness Test For Combat Troops
The Army has been working to change the old physical fitness test for more than a decade. And after development, testing, and finally implementation, Congress is throwing the service a curve.
Voting in a closed-door session, members of the Senate Armed Services Committee on Wednesday ordered the Army to change the new Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) to create a requirement for a supplemental test for troops in combat arms jobs in addition to the ACFT’s baseline standards.
“Servicemembers in military occupational specialties requiring close enemy combat must meet rigorous physical fitness requirements to ensure operational mission success,” the committee wrote.
