    Texas Secession "Would Mean War"

    It's interesting how incredibly divided this nation has become. Divided to the extent that the Texas GOP is trying to get a referendum on the ballot in 2023 to determine whether the state should secede.

    All the legal experts and armchair legal experts are coming out of the woodwork to weigh in on whether Texas can legally secede or not. As one puts it -- it would mean war.

    Not that Texans are going to vote to secede--but what if they did? Would the situation follow the same path as what we're seeing in Ukraine where Crimea and the Donbass seceded and it triggered a whole lot of killing and now a war? Would the war be immediate? Would it be slow in coming? Could the nation ever heal from it? What think ye?

    He said Texas could declare its independence today if it wanted to, but that "would mean war." Yet "this is not a battle Texas could win," either through the war or in the courts, he added.

    Hopefully, they'll vote to secede - and Russia or Mexico or Cuba will invade to help them. That's what I want to see. We know you folks are all good with that.

    I was actually interested in serious discussion.

    But, along your lines--since you saw fit to go that route--would you be okay with the US government sending in pro-government militias to kill Texans who wanted to secede? And, would it matter if many innocent Texans got caught in the crossfire?


    Here in the US, we're starting to see some fallout from corruption in the government.

    I was serious. You folks would support what I said. Would I be ok with the United States sending in troops to suppress an armed rebellion against the government of the United States? I called for the United States to violently suppress the secessionist rebellions against the government that took place in Portland and Seattle in 2020. So, yes. We know that you would not.

    Texas doesn't have a majority or near majority Russian population like the Donbas does.

    Did you side with England during the first unpleasantness?
    Call your state legislators and insist they approve the Article V convention of States to propose amendments.

    Texas reserved succession as a right in its State Constitution. Their immediate concern would be to secure their southern border and prevent foreign influence.

    What you said was not an accurate analogy for many reasons.

    But, you're not looking for a discussion--not really--you're looking to draw parallels where they don't exist because you don't understand why a large group of people do not support all-out war against Russia.

    I've pretty much given up trying to explain why military support of a corrupt Ukraine is not in the US's (or world's) best interest.

    I really do wish this thread could have stayed on track, but it's probably too late. Sigh.

    That sounds most likely. The Biden Administration has done their level best to turn Texas into a third-world nation by not allowing them to secure the border.
