Still an excellent idea. If the people could stop fighting each other as our overlords direct us to do we could band together and tell them we want:
    1) Bills posted on line
    2) Page limits for individual bills
    3) Term limits
    4) Campaign financing limits
    5) Tear down K Street
    6) Consolidate the Federal police agencies
    7) Ban insider trading for congress and their families

And who knows what else we might agree upon

And the thread poster is eminently qualified to tell us what leftists believe today? [If you are a Russian troll excuse me and carry on.] But seriously name calling is so childish surely in that deep reservoir of knowledge you realize one could easily reverse your words and say the same about so called conservatives. And the purpose of the thread is? Criticism, nothing more.

Is it very hard, then, to see why some of us would view them as being closer to Marxist revolutionaries than to American liberals of the past?

See Progress and Memory: Making Whole Our Historical Sense and follow the link to the entire article. Deneen posits that progressives have their eyes on the future: "what they really love is some romanticized view of the America that they visualize, rather than the America that actually exists." Liberals are focused on the present and exclude the past and future. Nostalgists, which many on the left confuse with conservatives, on the past, albeit a precivilized past.

@stephenpe has no shame, even after being corrected/owned he repeats his lies.

Obviously the founders did a lot right, which allowed us to become the greatest country in the world. However, there is a lot they got wrong. There is nothing wrong with trying to correct those things. Slavery is wrong. Women and minorities should indeed have the right to vote. Evolving as a country is a continual process.
