Biden Awards John McCain Medal of Freedom

Simone Biles, Megan Rapinoe, Gabby Giffords and Denzel Washington among Medal of Freedom awardees

(CNN) President Joe Biden will award the Medal of Freedom -- the nation's highest civilian honor -- to 17 recipients next week, with his first slate of honorees since taking office featuring Olympians, an Academy Award winner, the first American to receive the Covid-19 vaccine outside of trials, lawmakers on both sides of the aisle and civil rights advocates.

Biden will bestow the medal to several posthumous honorees, including Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain and AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka.

The list includes Olympic athletes Simone Biles and Megan Rapinoe, the fifth and sixth female athletes to be honored for the award. Rapinoe will be the first female soccer player to receive the medal.According to a statement from US Soccer, Rapinoe, the US Women's National Team forward and an advocate for equal pay, found out last week when Biden called her between practice sessions in Denver. When she saw "The White House" pop up on her phone screen, she thought she was either getting a robocall or being pranked by her teammates.....

Biden's list of awardees also includes religious clergy and social justice advocates, including: Sister Simone Campbell, who previously led the Catholic social justice organization NETWORK; Father Alexander Karloutsos, a priest who has provided counsel to several US presidents; Fred Gray, one of the first Black members of the Alabama State legislature since Reconstruction; Diane Nash, a civil rights organizer; and Raúl Yzaguirre, a civil rights advocate and former US ambassador to the Dominican Republic.

Academy Award winning actor Denzel Washington will also receive the award.

Denzel Washington? What has he done worthy of this honor? Plus, what did these atheletes do which is so special?

The medal appears to have devolved into an Award for the WOKE diversity crowd under Biden. But the McCain thing was an obvious cheap shot at former President Trump and his voters.

It's now used for political pandering.

I do not have the severe distaste for the late John McCain that many of my fellow Republicans do; so I will not criticize that particular matter.

But the canonization of "social justice advocates" (more precisely, social justice warriors) is really more than I can take.

And advocating "equal pay" (as a member of the US Women's National Soccer Team) has done makes sense only if the team brings in equal receipts.

Gabby Giffords received a medal of freedom, why? Just because she was shot?

Well, of course not. You have the same disasterous neocon beliefs that he did.
Power always thinks it has a great soul, and vast views, beyond the comprehension of the weak. And that it is doing God service when it is violating all His laws.

One could easily argue that Social Justice collectivism is the opposite of Freedom. That is clearly the result in any society large or small where it has been tried and the open Marxism of many advocates is well known.

So yes, it makes no sense and is insulting, but this is Biden we are talking about......

I have three major issues with John McCain in order:

    1. Refusing to go after Obama on personal matters in 2008 when there were many. His personal lack of character and history made him highly unqualified, but McCain played right into race card fears pretending it was just a matter of policy debate. I could have given him a political pass on that but.......

    2. Letting Obama get away with the Benghazi mess because some RINO's like Senator McCain had their finger prints on the Obama deal making with Anti-American ME Terrorists! This also beginning of our current poor relations with Russia because Putin made Barry look the fool in Syria.

    3. The very personal anti-Trump Tantrum because he succeeded in his Presidential campaign against Hillary where McCain failed. Trump went after her character and her record. Not playing PC nice with people that have no respect for you other than to pretend when convenient. McCain would have lost to Hillary Big Time!

Every President's awards of the Medal of Freedom provoke criticism and questions. In 2018, the medal went to, among others, Babe Ruth, Elvis Presley and a woman named Miriam Adelson, whose most notable accomplishment was being married to a billionaire Trump supporter. Go over the all-time list sometime; some of the recipients are surprising. On the other hand, sometimes a celebrity who most of us know only as a movie, t.v. or singing star does a ton of charitable work that we never hear about.
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.” - Robert E. Howard
