I see opinions written against that ruling, certainly, and those targeting their interests and not the actual reasoning, but not a rejection of the Constitution for it. I'm sure there are some. I argued against the ruling myself by citing Barrett's dissent but do not hate the court for it or reject the Constitution.

    ORIGINAL PASSAGE

"I am certainly not an advocate for frequent and untried changes in laws and constitutions. I think moderate imperfections had better be borne with; because, when once known, we accommodate ourselves to them, and find practical means of correcting their ill effects. But I know also, that laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths disclosed, and manners and opinions change with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also, and keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy, as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors." - Jefferson to H. Tompkinson (AKA Samuel Kercheval), July 12, 181610
I guess Tommy was one of those unAmericans you speak of.........

And in order to implement change would he have tossed out the Constitution or tried to amend it?

Yes, that seems to be the attitude of many on all sides. "It's the end of our democracy!" every time a vote, an election or a court decision goes against them. Far better to take the long view and think about the big picture, then work within the system to reverse what you believe was a wrong turn, but that route isn't nearly as viscerally satisfying.

Wanting to "toss out the Constitution", as an accusation, is a foolish Straw Man. As for amending the Constitution - yes, considering that the Founders created a procedure for doing so, which has been followed twenty-seven times to date, I'd say that was something of which Jefferson approved.

It was intended that way. Your comments ought to be directed to stephenpe's post.

My post was directed at you because you are the one who intimated that people who object to a court decision that doesn't go their way want to "throw out" the Constitution. It's an untrue and unjustified calumny and a vile, partisan exaggeration.

No. But you do sound un-knowledgeable about the Constitution. It provided us with a way to add or alter it legally it which case the argument of being against the Constitution no longer exists.

So an American would use the Amendment process. An American would not try to go around the process the Constitution set up to protect us. Thomas Jefferson helped to write that document.

You should learn about him before you decide to pull out a short passage from a letter.

Have you read some of LG's latest posts in a related thread?

He basically says the Senate is over powered and the House not nearly enough. And I have no doubt his true feelings about the SCOTUS as an equal branch. Perhaps he is an unfair example, but the intentions exists right here in this forum.

I was being rhetorical but look it up, there are people suggesting it. And then get off your high horse.
