Cool The countdown to Portillo's arrival in Ohio is on…

    Full disclosure: I don't know what a Portillo's is.

The countdown to Portillo's arrival in Ohio is on…

A popular slinger of Chicago-style hot dogs and more is targeting Ohio for expansion. Chicago-based Portillo’s Inc. expects to open more than 10 new restaurants in 2023. That could include the chain’s first location — or possibly locations — in Ohio. The company, beloved for its menu built around hot dogs, Italian beef and crinkle-cut fries, teased its 2023 Buckeye State plans last fall when it went public.

Though CEO Michael Osanloo did not mention Ohio on this week’s earnings call, he reaffirmed the company’s development goals for 2023, noting that several leases are signed and the company is already stocking up on equipment for those units now so as to minimize delays during buildout next year.

Portillo’s (Nasdaq: PTLO) declined to share any details beyond that, meaning we don't know where in the state the chain might be headed. But its growth plan is aggressive, with a stated goal of adding to its restaurant base by 10% a year. “So, if you’ve been begging us to open a Portillo’s in your city, you never know. It just might happen,” the company teases in its 2021 annual report.

I never heard of that chain. I did see an article recently that said the hot dog was one of the most unhealthy things to eat.

With that said, I have eaten a hotdog at some famous hotdog place in Chicago, and it was GOOD.
