I've noticed new atheists are most likely to turn anti-theist, and I've always assumed they were angry because they felt "tricked" in their younger years.

Plus, there's that very human-nature thing that makes us want others to agree with us in order to make us feel justified in our beliefs.

I've never turned 'against' organized religion, it just wasn't for me. Primarily, one of the initial things was being told I would burn in hell (or their definition of it) if I didn't follow a prescribed set of rules. I don't deal well with threats.

As I said, if someone else feels it fills something for them, and it harms no one, then have at it.

I guess I would measure a-theism vs anti-theism by whether the person talks for atheism or against theism.

It's not something I've sat down and analyzed, to be honest. Organized religion doesn't work for me, but it might for others. I guess that makes me 'atheist', though I don't deny the possibility of the existence of higher power. I just don't fear it, nor will I kotow to it.
