I don't eat as much salad as I should and the OP is tempting.

Growing up my favorite was a Bob's Big Boy Combo plate (burger and fries) with a salad and Bob's Blue Cheese Dressing!

We normally don't keep salad stuff around the house; we forget it's in the fridge, it turns into a science experiment, etc.
Guilty as charged for too long. THen the wife found a way to keep the romaine last longer. But we still forget. She taught me that a boiled egg on salad makes it WAY better. True story. Many years ago when the govt. had all this surplus cheese they gave it to schools. Our lunch ladies would take the salad stuff and that DELICIOUS cheese and throw it in a big food processor. BEST salad ever. It wasnt like cole slaw but it was nice and blended and chopped the way I like it.....

I can't imagine what it looks like when they "whipped" up a salad. Cream of lettuce?

I was even considering which of the many fast food places in the area might offer something resembling a salad, when I happened to see a sign on a nearby building that said "Mad Greens". I couldn't think of what else it might be other than a salad restaurant, so I went in and sure enough. The 'Ty Cobb' looked good - and it was! - consisting of Romaine lettuce, grilled chicken breast, hardboiled egg, bacon, tomato, onion and cucumber, with bleu cheese dressing. (It normally comes with avocado, but I nixed that.) I told the wife about the place, which is less than two miles from my house, and now one or the other of us will pick up salads to go for both at least once a week. A large salad costs about $14, but it's almost too much for a person to eat at one sitting.

The wife finally bought another one of the cabbage based salads. Havent had on in over a year. IT was great. I added some onion to it and it came with a great sweet onion vinagrette. I had forgotten how good they were..........

At its peak in 1989, there were over 240 Bob's locations throughout the United States, most belonging to Marriott. By 2022, only four Bob's Big Boy Restaurants remain in operation, all in Southern California. Those four locations are in Burbank (Toluca Lake), Downey, Norco, and Northridge.

I used to eat lunch at the one in Downey (Firestone Blvd) on a regular basis until 2019. I was told it is still the original building.

The fries seems to be more important than the burgers to the regulars.

For anyone who enjoys a chicken Caesar salad, you should try a Greek chicken salad. Romaine lettuce is a must and you can add the usual Greek salad veggies or not, as you prefer. What is essential is a really good yogurt feta dressing and it's better if the chicken has been marinated in Greek spices and grilled. You garnish the salad with feta cheese.
