I once tried to order a "pepperoni" pizza in Florence I even drew a schematic and sign language. The pizza arrived...cheese, and green peppers, no sauce. Best pizza I've ever had. But locally, I favor Hoagies Pizza, small, local, and family owned, and IMO the best sauce in my state (not that I've thried every one, but one can dream.

Another guy from my aircrew and I ordered pizza in a nice little place in the south of France. The servers spoke zero English, which was exactly as much French as we knew, but we thought we made it understood that we wanted beef and mushrooms on our pizza. Turns out we had, and the pizza came with beef and mushrooms and had sauce on it as well, but no fromage. We were unaware that if you want cheese there apparently you have to order it; it's not assumed, as it is pretty much every place here. He wanted to send it back, but I talked him out of it. You live and learn.

I had it in Florence too. Nothing like here but pretty good. I remember eating my first one about the age of 8 (1962) in Cocoa Fla. My aunt bought it in the dairy case premade. I was HOOKED. Im like cowboy. I LIKE PIZZA. Put anything on it , I will eat it. Gville Fla has a place called Satchels. Best salad on earth and great pizza and like visiting a cultural/pop museum. A must destination.
When I was 17 I spent a couple months in Brazil (my dad worked there for a few years). Had several pizzas there, and all had white sauce. They were very good. The food in Brazil was quite good, especially the churrascaria. https://www.delightedcooking.com/wha...urrascaria.htm
