Most states and localities have limits on assessment increases. It’s typically impossible for an assessment to go up by that much in one year.

Assessments usually happen every couple of years. Unless you made improvements to your property, they don't change the cycle.

Ours here are every 5 years, and ours went up 35% ish.

I doubt any county sent out notices to homeowners telling them their taxes went down.

Mine did.
