    Winter Prepping

It's that time to start prepping for the coming winter. Last year my area was hit with record snowfall, we were isolated for quite a while. It didn't really affect me too much because of my preps, I hardly noticed it, except for needing some fresh vegetables. But this time I got that covered with my microgreens.

One thing was I didn't have a generator or propane heater and we got hit with a few sustained power outages. But luckily I was smart enough, I used candles and put a giant stock pot over them and put tealights in my lanterns. It kept my house at 66 degrees. That's not too bad for a sustained power outage. But after that I purchased an indoor propane heater. I am thinking I will buy at least two more propane tanks and have them filled, just in case.

I also bought lots of hand warmers and body warmers. I got a propane stove and kettle because hot water is important for morale in a power outage.

I know it's a bit early, and winter is a ways out, but time moves quickly and it's better to be prepared early if you can.
We are all brothers and sisters in humanity. We are all made from the same dust of stars. We cannot be separated because all life is interconnected.

Luckily I do not have worry about that but I am thing about moving some hydroponics into my office for the same reason as you. Fresh greens and maybe a few vegetables. I just need a good safety plan because I have real hardwood floors and I saw what a leaky shower pan did to the floors in the hallway.
    Let's go Brandon !!!

I have been making my winter time preparations. I do need to stock some more prepper food. I think I have just about enough firewood, I'll probably go after a couple more dead trees just to be sure. Got a good bit of cutting and splitting done last weekend.

Here's my wood splitting operation, lol.

Well you better be ready to supplement electric heat anyway you can !
Electric rates here , in one of the most energy rich regions in the nation are now costing us 16-17 cents/ kWh.
No one can pay their bills! Now!
ENTERGY donated 4 million dollars last month for optics.

Because the Political Public Service Commission granted the rate increases and "hurricane recovery surcharges."
I know they are an essential utility. But damn ! All they have to do is break even . Make a little money.
But I know better. I used to be vested in utility stocks.

Typical government , create a problem and then a solution dat perpetuates the problem.

    Just wait until winter comes.

You'll be seeing European style $#@! here.
    And it's way past time.
Today we live. Tomorrow we die

My winter prep plan this year is 4-5 months in Florida. Tea lights would not help me at -30. I'm too old to work that hard

Is that a Kubota tractor? I need one and Kubota is the direction I have been leaning.

What do you think of it?

It's actually not a Kubota, it's a Rural King RK37. They are made for Rural King by a South Korean manufacturer called TYM. I did look at Kubota tractors, as well as John Deere when I was tractor shopping. And I agonized over the decision. I was able to get the RK37 with a 7' backhoe, a 60" brush cutter, and a 6' box blade for about the same price as a comparable bare bones Kubota or John Deere. It's actually got a 3 cylinder Yanmar diesel engine, which is the same as the John Deere. I've had it for a couple of years, and so far it's been a good machine. Plenty of power, and pretty heavy duty.

There is a tractor forum I lurk around at, where you could glean a lot of user experience of Kubota owners. I have mostly heard good things about them. https://www.tractorbynet.com/

Kubota tractors are great! We have one, with a backhoe and 4 other attachments, everything that needs doing around the place, it makes short work of........the Kubota outworked/out performed a friend's John Deere, HE even said so!

Edit........it also has a wood spliter attachment.

We got hit by a horrible snowstorm last Christmas! From 1-3 feet of snow. It destroyed thousands of trees and knocked out power for weeks! The only way I could keep warm was with a tank top propane heater We lost all the food in the fridge. It was totally miserable!
