The non-oil based silicone sprays for aluminum can be better for long term fixes. They do not attract dirt and dust like WD40 does.

WD-40 is great short term but long term just becomes sticky mud.

WD 40 is not an effective lubricant. My neighbor used to squirt it into the door locks on his house and cars. They all failed in fairly short order and needed to be replaced.

Two Ways To Make A WD-40 Substitute

Method 1: Fill a spray bottle with one part water and three parts organic vegetable oil. Shake to mix. Apply as you would WD-40.
Method 2: Mix 90% organic vegetable oil with 10% acetone and shake to combine.
