I don’t believe “Braves” is offensive really, but just another way to think about it.

Any specific feedback? Or just childish trolling and personal attacks?

Many years ago, when I was still a kid living on the rez, a group of AIM ($#@!s In Moccasins) activists showed up, trying to recruit members and they heard some tourist who was so White you almost had to wear sunglasses to look at him make a reference to "Indians". They started giving him a hard time, telling him that the "proper" term was "Native American" and he owed them an apology for being an ignorant White Man.

Seneca culture is matrilineal, that is to say, lines of descent run through the mother rather than the father as it does in most other cultures. So, women have a lot of juice. My Grandmother in particular was a force of nature to be reckoned with. She saw what was going on and went over pushed her way into the crowd and basically told everybody to shut the $#@! up. She asked the guy who was being dressed down by the AIM bunch where he was born. He said he was born in Minnesota (the guy was obviously of Northern European descent). She then proceeded to verbally wipe the floor with the gang from AIM by telling them that as far as she knew, Minnesota was a part of the United States and if that guy was born there, he was as much a "Native American" as they were.

    That always stuck with me.

Another incident that I think of whenever the "Native American/Indian" debate comes up relates to the first time I met the man who is now the Cacique of Pueblo near where I currently live. The Cacique is the religious and spiritual leader of the Pueblo. It is a lifetime appointment. He is kind of like the Pope of the Pueblo. At the time, he was not yet the Cacique. He was in fact, a Tribal Police Officer.

When I first met him, he shook my hand in that kind of limp wristed way Puebloans do and asked me "Do you talk Indian?". Today, almost 30 years later, he is a great friend and the most powerful man in the tribe, having far more power than the Tribal Governor.

I think the people who get most concerned about the correct label for Tribal Members are White Liberals who like to make themselves feel better about themselves by "standing up for oppressed Native American Indigenous First Nation Peoples, or whatever the current feel good label is, when in reality, most Indians don't give a $#@!.

Sounds like you enjoy the rich Indian heritage.
I rarely, RARELY have reason to reference anybody by their heritage. If I know your name, that is what I reference. Otherwise, being New Jersey born and bred, 'that man/woman over there' suffices.

I truly enjoy celebrating people's heritage with them. Learning about the culture, food, perspective.

According to certain groups, the 'one drop' theory reigns supreme. Others, 'unto 100 generations'. The differences, or combination of heritages, makes us all unique.

    Absolutely spot on.

People don't get to choose their race/ethnicity. You are what you are. There is nothing wrong with taking pride in that as long as you understand that YOU didn't do it. It is not an accomplishment of some sort. It is an accident of birth and doesn't make you any better or worse than anyone else.

It is what you do with it that matters.

Exactly, it isn’t about any race or ethnicity, so your whining didn’t make much sense.

There are several Indian reservations in my area. Many have high schools. Most are named “Indians,” Redskins or Chiefs. One is named “The War Whoops.”

You are the one whining about Braves and that is an English label. So you are making even less sense. I was simply mocking your idiocy in this case.

The braves logo is a tomahawk to represent native Americans. Your reference to the warriors was just dumb. You tried to make a smart ass remark, but it didn’t make sense and came off as dumb.
