I would speculate in the early 1300's .
Keep in mind, no one has persecuted Christians more than christians, themselves.
    Primarily, the church of Rome.

During this time , the Pope and The Catholic Church were convinced that the Crusaders had discovered, and had in their possession, The Holy Grail. Which they refused to turn over to the corrupt church.

Keep in mind, the Crusaders were no saints. Yet , the Holy Grail is not what you think it might be.

The Church wanted it to conceal and destroy it. For if the sacred, secret was revealed, The Catholic Church would be exposed at the time, and would be revealed as fraudulent.

The Crusaders came to live and dwell amongst a peaceful group of Christians called the Cathars. They worshipped Christ in their own fashion, independent of Rome.

Under the guise of heresy, the Roman church wiped out every known Cathar and any Crusader Knight who did not repent and denounce his heresy.

Many items were confiscated and brought to Rome.
But The Holy Grail is still in safekeeping. Away from the pretenders of Christ.

A good analogy would be, there's a lot of money in religion! Especially 1000 years ago. And that wealth is still all there. Only token, spiritual relief is provided. To the day, Catholic charities Inc is the biggest houser of illegal aliens and the largest receiver of government funds .
They don't use their own money to do this. If the government funds go dry, they close shop and you're on you're own.
Something went awry with separation of religion and government. AKA church and state.

But it didn't stop there in the past. Any form of science or religion was punishable by death.
Mental illness, too. Even female hysteria, which was often labeled as witchcraft.

Interesting thing about Witchcraft and how the term "riding the broom" came about. Look it up if you desire . But it could be a death sentence if a woman was caught in the act.

Christianity has come a long way through no help of its own.
A far cry from the Islamic atrocities that still exist today.

I was a born and raised Catholic. Today I worship Christ without the propaganda of organized religion.

Christians today, for the most part, do not persecute non-Christians (at least not unto death), but as you say things were very different in past centuries. The Romans from the 4th Century on and the Vikings from the 10th, for example, were wiping out the practitioners of the very religions they'd formerly practiced and doing it in the name of Jesus.

The historical illiteracy of our members is simply astounding.
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.
