Yes, it surprisingly doesn't take a lot for the health benefits older people need.

The hard part is getting into it, so to speak. I work the way I do because I genuinely enjoy it. Gym time is me time. It's a way for me to decompress after work, socialize with other fitness enthusiasts, look and feel great. What donttread probably needs is some professional advice about working around pain and discomfort. If one movement doesn't feel right, stop doing it for now. Perform another exercise that's comparable.

As for cardio, my runs lean toward intensity much of the year. I work on my mile and 5K times when it's colder out. I see it more like training than cardio. If you are just walking on the treadmill to burn calories and you aren't really into it I can see how one might be bored out of their skull.
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

On weights. Yes, there are all sorts of exercises and variants to get around most injuries. My knees and lower back are shot. So the big leg exercises and many compound exercises most weightlifters hold as gospel for building strength are out for me. But there are other options if you look for them.

On cardio: I get board on the treadmill. HIIT helps as it is takes less time than steady state cardio. But if I forget to charge my MP3 player and it is a cardio day- I will change plans and do weights. Catch up on the cardio the next day after I recharge the music box.

I also don't see the gym as work. I enjoy my time there.

I never run with music. I don't want to get to the point where I feel like I need it. Same thing with pre-workout. Even when I'm a little tired or not as into it, once I get going I'll be fine. I don't want to start relying on caffeine.

Agreed on the exercise options. We're not training for Mr. Olympia. There are no must do exercises.

A brisk, 30 minute walk on the treadmill, is all I need......with music, it seems to make the time go faster and, not so tedious.

I only need music/podcasts for a treadmill or similar gym equipment. I never used it outside. Nature and listening for ambushes.
