Tortillas

I went for a walk this morning, when I got back I decided to make some tortillas for tacos later. What I like is how simple it is to make these just masa and water. I would have to say that in my book masa is a prepper must have. In a survival situation you can just mix masa with a little bit of water and eat it without even cooking it. If you put it in a mylar with an o2 absorber it can last for 30 years.

Thank you : ) The way I see it is that it doesn't matter what shape they are as long as they taste good. Do you make flour tortillas? My loved one has made flour tortillas with a rolling pin a few times, and they turned out pretty good. I myself have never tried it yet, but would like to. Yes that is a press it works really good for the masa tortillas.

I've only made them a couple of times, using a rolling pin. Maybe that's why mine were so lopsided. LOL

The really old shcool people make them without a rolling pin or a press, they slap them in their hands. They are skilled. I don't know how they do it. I prefer the easy method. Lol.

When I was a kid, the people across the street were Mexican and my sister and I went over there all the time, the woman made tortillas and would send home a basket of them with us, they were hot and soooo good, we'd eat them with butter, while watching TV, the kids sitting on the floor, watching Gilligan's Island.

There were 6 of us and, she'd send home 6 tortillas......it was never enough, we always wanted more......LOL

Absolutely. They are the ultimate survival bread.

I have an old thread here somewhere where I dated a new bought bag of them and ate them 18 months later. Still just fine.

My wife's second hubby was Hispanic and she said his whole family would just grab a tortilla and eat their food on it.
So much of Hispanic foods are made to be scooped up with one.

Good thinking on the prepping , prepper .

Without the proper preparation and plan of action of prepping one might be forced to rob, pilfer or resort to other actions to feed his family that are not acceptable in any part of society with the exception of high society .

With those misdirected snobbish types it's known as "business as usual"

In their defense at least their priorities appear to be in order. It also begs the question " do the means justify the end " ?

I'm not sure but I think hunger is a great motivator. In addition it can also serve as a means of breaking down the walls and barriers of society in the name of serving the interests of only a few.

As long as I am one of the "few" I will be ok with it ...

That's only a dream as I have yet to toss my own hat into the political arena.

Possibly. If not one would have to believe starvation is an acceptable alternative.
