Social media has become entirely too great a presence in too many people's lives. The conflict and turmoil surrounding anything that happens on it, good or bad, is similar to the deeply emotional reaction that some folks have when a character on one of their favorite t.v. dramas is killed off. People were generally happier when their best opportunity for getting a bunch of people to listen to their opinion about something was to write a Letter to the Editor.

Good! so, we're in general agreement about considering the past when looking to the future; even when we don't appreciate what that retrospection will bring.

Yes, looking to the past is sometimes useful in evaluating current situations and events - just not in this case, or given the examples CC provided.

Correct.
As I've already alluded, there is no morality applicablility ; it doesn't exist in this situ.
Rationality? That, sir, will be in the eye of the beholder.
Without the above emotions to muddy the conversation, what specific avenue do you hold as the means to guarantee free and open speech to all ?
