Judge strikes down higher education portions of DeSantis’s ‘Stop WOKE Act’

Such a ruling implies it's free speech to teach conspiracy theories, Nazism/fascism/Communism, even racism--look at what racism the law prohibits.

Judge strikes down higher education portions of DeSantis’s ‘Stop WOKE Act’

A federal judge on Thursday struck down provisions of Florida’s “Stop WOKE Act” that prohibited public college employees from promoting eight concepts related to race during instruction.

U.S. District Judge Mark Walker, who previously blocked other portions of the law in a separate case, quoted the opening sentence of George Orwell’s dystopian novel “1984” as he issued a preliminary injunction blocking the law’s higher education provisions and pushed back on the state’s arguments.

“‘It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen,’ and the powers in charge of Florida’s public university system have declared the State has unfettered authority to muzzle its professors in the name of ‘freedom,’” Walker wrote....

The opinion @ https://storage.courtlistener.com/re...43792.44.0.pdf lists these offensive items in the law:

In 2022, the Florida Legislature passed the “Individual Freedom Act” (IFA).
The IFA amended the Florida Educational Equity Act (FEEA) to prohibit “training
or instruction that espouses, promotes, advances, inculcates, or compels . . .
student[s] or employee[s] to believe [eight specified concepts].” § 1000.05(4)(a),
Florida Statutes (2022). These eight concepts are as follows:

    1. Members of one race, color, national origin, or sex are morally
superior to members of another race, color, national origin, or sex.

    2. A person, by virtue of his or her race, color, national origin, or
sex is inherently racist, sexist, or oppressive, whether consciously or
    unconsciously.

    3. A person’s moral character or status as either privileged or
oppressed is necessarily determined by his or her race, color, national
    origin, or sex.

    4. Members of one race, color, national origin, or sex cannot and
should not attempt to treat others without respect to race, color, national
    origin, or sex.

    5. A person, by virtue of his or her race, color, national origin, or
sex bears responsibility for, or should be discriminated against or
receive adverse treatment because of, actions committed in the past by
other members of the same race, color, national origin, or sex.

    6. A person, by virtue of his or her race, color, national origin, or
sex should be discriminated against or receive adverse treatment to
    achieve diversity, equity, or inclusion.

    7. A person, by virtue of his or her race, color, sex, or national
origin, bears personal responsibility for and must feel guilt, anguish, or
other forms of psychological distress because of actions, in which the
person played no part, committed in the past by other members of the
same race, color, national origin, or sex.

    8. Such virtues as merit, excellence, hard work, fairness,
neutrality, objectivity, and racial colorblindness are racist or sexist, or
were created by members of a particular race, color, national origin, or
sex to oppress members of another race, color, national origin, or sex.

I think the key word is "public college" - i.e. taxpayer funded. This should be interesting.

One would hope that in higher education, some basis of discussion would ensue on those topics. While not fully formed, they should already understand those concepts if they have been in society.

The most concerning people are the ones who pursue their subject matter under guise of a different subject. Those that make it clear what their objectives are, are easy to ignore.

Will that happen with a captive audience? How much will you argue with the prof who hands out grades about his belief in CRT?

If the 'test' is direct question regarding CRT, it should be answered as taught. It doesn't mean it is your belief or mindset.

Arguing a concept is during discuss, not during tests or exams.

Should we teach astrology, too, while we're at it? CRT is a Marxist garbage theory cooked up in the late 70's to push anti-white racism.

Let me use an example from my own history.

Architecture class. I rendered a set of construction drawings with full engineering of a support system for a house that extended over a cliff. It was not a test, it was just a required set of drawings.

The prof said nope, I argued yes, and explained my thinking on the subject. Because of this discussion, one of the questions on the exam had to do with weight balance on supported/unsupported structures. I know that the discussion was the basis for the question because the prof looked directly at me and smiled when the exam was being handed out.

The way the question was phrased eliminated my ability to explain why my answer was actually correct, and required me to 'correctly' answer it based on his thinking. It's been too many years to remember the actual words, but he gloated, and I fumed.

I got Honors for that class.

    Replied to in humor.

While astrology majors aren’t yet offered in universities, college courses and online courses do exist. Here’s how to become an astrologer. Whether you’re curious about learning how to predict your own monthly horoscope on your own or hoping to start up a professional business, learning astrology isn’t as simple as memorizing zodiac signs.
