I have been there a few times. Use local currency- with foreign money stuff is priced differently.

I like Iceland. Beautiful country but eye wateringly expensive.

The wife was stationed at the Navfac in Keflavik for two years in the '80s. I was deployed there for a few months at the same time, but we didn't meet till years later.
Before she left she mailed herself a stuffed puffin - not a plush toy, a real stuffed puffin - which is prohibited by the Icelandic authorities, so she marked the customs declaration "stuffed animal" and let them assume what they would.
The strangest thing I encountered there - this was during the Summer months - was the Sun never really setting...just going down near the horizon and sort of hovering there. The locals seem to be pretty well inured to the cold weather; if the temperature gets up into the low sixties a lot of them will begin sunbathing.
The Atlantic cod they catch and serve there is absolutely wonderful, as are the fruit pastries and the local brie.
“Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.” - Robert E. Howard
"Only a rank degenerate would drive 1,500 miles across Texas and not eat a chicken fried steak." - Larry McMurtry
I would move there in a heart beat if given the chance.
Unfortunately, I cannot practice unless fluent in the primary language so I either have to learn Icelandic or find a new gig.
