Jumping out of an airplane with a paraschute is just as safe flying. What these guys are doing isn't quite that safe.

when I was younger, I had no problem with heights and I still wouldn't do that. Now I'm not so thrilled with heights, but I'd still jump from a plane given the opportunity.

I'd have more confidence in a plane staying in the air than I would in a parachute opening.

I never saw a paraschute fail. I didn't have a huge number of jumps, but I was on several mass tactical jumps and never saw a paraschute failure.

If a plane is not having mechanical issues, it is not likely to crash, whereas whether or not the parachute was correctly folded, will open properly and if it does, that it won't tangle or that I won't be blown into power lines or something else equally deadly, is a huge unknown and potential risk. IOW, jumping out of planes for fun is simply an unnecessary risk that I cannot justify.

Never did that but when I was in the Islands I had to sleep with one eye open and my hand on a sharp object just in case.

Undocumented rumor says I was seen sleeping on top of a pinball machine in a bar after being introduced to a Long Island Ice Tea.
