Reagan played the Christian Right. He actually did very little to aid them. Unless you want to call Meese's little attack on Playboy a real event.

So these attacks of the Far Right almost always fail to identify them. Christian right, Tea Party, Nazis, Gun owners, libertarians...?

Leftists call anyone that disagrees with them "far right".

What she is really trying to say here is that conservatives are bad and you need to split the party, so everyone will have to turn to CNN, the New York Times, Washington Post, Vox, US News & World Report...where her bread is buttered.
Yeah, libs never refer to their own as "far left", even though most are.

One has to wonder if we would have had Reagan in 1980 without their support.By 1984, no one was going to beat him.
I agree. The GOP wanted the religious right for those reasons. Not to be in positions of high power.

They overlap. I don't think the intellectual core of the Necons care much for the religious right. But they will take their votes and money.

Under Bush 2 they certainly seemed so.

That’s absolutely untrue. The neo-con Bush types are responsible.

Bush 2 was the first I heard of social conservatism. Another expression was compassionate conservatism. But it was neoconservatism, most of whom were liberal on domestic policy. Under its guise, Bush stole liberal thunder, especially Teddy Kennedy's, with such programs as the medicare drug prescription plan and no child left behind. It wasn't all that religious.

It's hard to argue that people in the US moved further and further to the right. They more or less stayed where they were, while the left embraced homosexuality, gay marriage, single-parent families, transgenderism, birth control, and so on. The so-called "Overton window" never moved for a lot of conservatives, who don't look up admiringly to the Mitt Romneys of the world and adopt their positions. Democrats find it much easier to betray the principles of their religion than the platform of their political party.

Colin Powell was a closet commie. He liked Castro's Cuba, particularly his education and medical systems.

That's the sum and substance of the entire thing. What's worse for them is that working class Democrats struggle to identify with the Democrats now, because they are just so weird.

Neither are the nihilistic leftist billionaires like Soros, et. al. The only way we could seriously have national debates about transgenderism is for very wealthy donors to be pushing that stuff.

Yes, and there doesn't seem to be any center right or right to distinguish with a "far right." You either agree with whatever nuttery their espousing, or you're an extremist of some sort.
