My two youngest were raised in the same house by the same parents - a house with books almost literally everywhere - and were given the same opportunity to own and read books, with the wife and I as role models in that regard. My daughter is now 34 and I was in her house yesterday and seriously don't believe she even owns any books. Not to suggest that the two things are necessarily connected, but although she's been working at one job or another since she was a young teenager and has a very good work ethic, she has never really held a job of any great responsibility, or one that lasted more than a few years. My youngest son, on the other hand, who is 31, has always surrounded himself with books, and has a wide-ranging knowledge of all manner of subjects as a result. He and I frequently text back and forth about the latest books we've found. Since college, he's been a reporter, the Deputy Communications Director for a member of Congress, and now lives in Washington, D.C., where he is a well-positioned researcher and writer for a media watchdog group - a job he loves and is extremely good at.
