Yeah, it has always been a bad idea.

That reminds me of the 19th Century Zulu king Shaka, who reportedly kept his soldiers in a compound, separated from the rest of the people, and refused to allow them to marry until they were in their forties. If an unmarried soldier got a woman pregnant, they were both executed.

That is a little extreme, but I could see discharging him under less than honorable conditions. Maybe a BCD.

The King had the right general idea.

Now I suddenly have an urge to watch Zulu for the fiftieth time. I'd post a clip, but with all those Black people being shot down and bayonetted by the imperialist White guys, it's probably much too racist to watch these days.

When younger people ask me about joining the military I tell them to ignore ignorant people like him.

I tell them not to listen to incels who sport a man bun and carry a murse.

I give them the same advice I gave them when I was in. I tell them it is a great place to learn about yourself and serve your country, but if you are going to do it, look at an MOS that will enable you to have a trade after you leave the service.

That is pretty close to what you said earlier and I think it is the best advice to give.

When I tell them to choose an MOS which translates to something in the civilian world they say, “weren’t you in the infantry?”

It depends on what they might want to do after the military. Infantry is still a good choice for many.

it is. It was for me, but I can recognize those who would not do well as an infantryman, but do well as an X-Ray tech or helicopter mechanic.

Yes. If you know what sort of career you want post-Army, it makes sense to pick and MOS that supports that.

I am glad I went 11B with the airborne option.
