That's one of those ask a difficult (deep) question, get a stupid / insincere answer. Looks matter plain and simple, it is the first element of appeal.

Down the road other elements enter.

After thinking about it, I wouldn't be too harsh on lady #1.

She's got a basic point for survival at that point in history.
I don't think it was meant to be a money grabbing post.

Just a desire for a man who can provide.

But when I look in her eyes.........

Very different culture back in 1967. Most women still aspired to be housewives, and more depended on men for survival. Obviously that mindset has dwindled considerably since then, but you can see why money would be more important at the time, along with kindness, "liking children", etc. Now days dating is largely just vanity and leisure for women, they don't really need a man in their lives, so the more shallow looks factor becomes more important.

The last gal cracks me up. When asked if she'd marry an ugly man, she responds, "I've married one."

I bet that got her in hot water.

Right. They want a man who can provide for them. Even the so-called type A women won't stand for a slacker for long. I knew a guy whose talked with his "type A" wife and they decided as a couple that he would be the house husband. She made much more- both were professionals. After a few years she dumped him in a cruel way. Called him a useless sissy. He wasn't. He was a gym rat and coached local high school sports teams and individuals. Not much money, just pocket change. And took care of the house and kids.

    Yes, very different times.

Today, many women make more money than the guys they date or marry, and that's changed the relationship dynamic. Men used to be the head decision makers in the relationship--or at least the women let them think they were.
No such pretense exists anymore--at least not in a growing number of relationships. And, perhaps that fact has also steered women away from raising children.

According to a growing school of thought, women are smarter than men, and when you put that together with their ability to make as much or more money, what is left that attracts a female to a male? Males are still physically stronger and there's still an element of protection, but more and more women are buying guns so that's starting to go out the window, too.

Today's young women (a growing number of them in the US) want a partner. They want someone who will share life's journey on an equal footing. They want someone who is intelligent and fun to be around.

    We live in interesting times.

There's no call for women to be mean like that.

I know of one situation that was (or, is) similar, and it's uncomfortable to be around that couple. I have no clue why the husband stays with her. He's a nice guy and he deserves to be happier.
