You're right, it takes balance. You have to be able to pass. I see the current era of football welcoming more of the guys that move well in the backfield to buy themselves time to throw, while running occasionally. The Mahomes, Jackson or Hurts types. But a running back that lines up at QB hasn't gotten it done.

Like I said, I stopped caring about such trivia in 2020. College and pro sports have become little more than distractions for a derelict citizenry. Bread and circuses, in other words.

Nothing wrong with some distraction. It beats porn and left wing television movies coming out of Hollywood. In both those cases you know how the story ends. The money shot or the black non-binary drag queen kills the White Christian.

I only mentioned a political angle because I wanted to explain why I don't watch the Bears as much as I used to. I used to be a big Bears fan (along with Blackhawks, Cubs, and Bulls). But I don't want to derail the thread and make it about politics.

Anyway, I will admit that I'm biased against Fields. Not because he's from Ohio State (it certainly doesn't help him), but because I'm biased against all new Bears QB's. The Bears have a long and well-established history of picking duds at QB. And the only truly talented QB the Bears ever had (Jay Cutler), they traded for from the Broncos. And once they acquired him, they failed to realize the full potential of his talent due to organizational mismanagement, a trend which is very likely to continue during Fields' time with the Bears. So even if Fields did have the natural talent to become a top tier QB (which I think he pretty obviously does not), the Bears would just waste it like they always do. I don't mean to crap on the Buckeye parade, but I've been following the Bears for a LONG time and I feel obligated to warn you that Chicago is where QB's come to fail, so don't get your hopes up too much.

Another observation: I think the 1,000 rushing season is more indicative of lack of protection, slow thinking, and bad coaching. Aaron Rodgers is known for scrambling a lot, but he scrambles laterally in an attempt to let pass plays develop. Fields, on the other hand, just wants to tuck the ball and run as a safety blanket, which is a really bad habit for a QB to develop. By the way, most of that is not on Fields, but on his coach. It's the coaches job to impress upon Fields the importance of rushing as a last resort, rather than a first or second option.

We should get you to Columbus for a Buckeye game. It'd be a blast.

Well, as you've mentioned, they don't have a great record with QB's in the NFL. And I will admit that I've never liked Ohio State. I'm not sure why. Must have something to do with growing up in Illinois.

If I were in the area and the opportunity presented itself, I wouldn't say no. I am planning to go to Ohio sometime to visit my marine buddy who lives there, but not sure when that would be since I'm so busy with work.

Don't forget: The Bears are the same organization that picked Mitchell Trubisky over Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson. If the entire Bears organization sat down and was like, "What's the worst possible pick we can make in the 2017 draft?", I don't think they could have come up with a better choice than Trubisky. Not only that, they gave away multiple picks (two third round picks and one fourth round pick) to move up in the draft for a chance to get Trubisky. Good thing I'm not a Bears fan anymore because now I can laugh at this!
