This morning I spent about an hour in my shelter. I got a tornado watch notice. Usually I move things into my shelter on receipt of a tornado watch notice. I have a bag that includes a weapon, ammunition, cash and some important papers. I have a good rechargeable flashlight-AM/FM radio. It goes too. I inventory my supplies to confirm I have what I will need for three days.
Today was different. Less than five minutes after the watch we went straight to warning including sirens. I headed to the shelter immediately. The sky darkened, we had nearby lightning strikes, one after another in rapid succession.
Then electrical power went out.
The warning was extended twice.
While the power was out I started reading one of the books on strategy taught at the Army War College. I continued until the power came back on, after doing without for three hours. I appreciate the level of effort the utility guys put into restoring power.
