Sounds like a tactical choice of speed and maneuverability with the Leopard 2 vs the ability to take a hit for the Challenger 2. Isn't it cheaper to load the woods with anti-tank missiles than fighting a tank battle?

Just another handout to the weapons manufactures. Sure as hell isn't going to make one bit of difference strategically. The Russians have multiple anti-tank vectors that will make quick work of these increasingly obsolescent machines. But, hey, maybe it will help some pathetic Englishmen to feel tough and important again. They miss the good old days when they could rape and pillage with impunity.

Counters to those are coming online. I posted about a couple of different once already. And the US excels at ECM and I suspect our carrier battlegroups will look like 5 or 6 of them to Chinese radar. I just recent posted about a new weapon system, though I can't think of it now.

The problem with giving British tanks to Ukrainians is that Ukrainians will be using them with a month or two of training. So they won't be proficient with them. If Russia is able to mount a real offensive in the spring, how effective will it be? In another article that I posted it seems they plan on giving combined arms a chance. If so, the Ukraines may be in trouble.

Eastern Ukraine has less woods and more steppe. Tank country. But yes, when employing tanks near/in forests they are venerable to enemy infantry with antitank weapons. But that is why in that situation the tanks should be operating with their own infantry.

Surveillance systems go well beyond radars. Aircraft, manned and unmanned. Surface ships, many hundreds of them, submarines, almost 70 of them, sound systems, and probably more systems I have forgotten.

It is a harsh world in the China Seas.

I merely provided one example. I agree it is very risky for the US to operate there. Wars = risk.
