I remember one before the cell phones were common, that I had to limp the car down to a gas station in NC farmland. I asked the cashier to call the police for me. He did and handed me the phone. Two guys were listening in for the location of the accident, obviously because they flew out the door as soon as I gave it to the cops.

I feel bad, when I run over a squirrel....those things double back on ya! I've ran over two in my life.

I ran over a dove once, stupid thing never flew away, I kept getting closer, thinking 'it's going to

I'm not sure, but I think the entire Phoenix area did, as well as the suburbs.

I have found two doves frozen to death this winter. In different locations. Weird.

Doves aren't very smart. On the base in Tucson, there was a dove that built a nest in one of those stainless steel ashtrays, outside one of the buildings.......right outside the door, people passing by , it just sat there.

On top of our gazebo, when we lived in Tucson, a dove built a nest on top of it......using only a couple of twigs and some grass......it actually laid an egg up there, that immediately rolled right off.

I ran over a dog once, a German Shepherd. It just bolted out of nowhere on a busy road and I just couldn't stop in time. It ended up under my car and I was desperately trying to help get it out so I could take it to a Vet when it just took off. I tried following it but couldn't keep up. Then I spent ages searching to no avail.

This was decades ago and it still haunts me. I hope it was found, helped and was ok.

I don't know, for every one killed, there's like 5 more taking its place, doves are the most prevalent birds here, followed by, quail.

If it was able to run off like that, it probably ran home and, the owners took it to the vet.......yep, that's what happened.

I have some really fat doves in my backyard each day. Under my bird feeder where lots of corn gets shaken out (i bought the cheap birdseed last time). I literally have hundreds of birds in my small backyard this winter. Probably about 10 different types. I recently had some delicious doves at my good friends house. He and his brother killed about 20 and he wrapped the breast around jalapenos and cream cheese and grilled them Amazing stuff............I get my venison from him, too.

That's true, they always wait until the last possible second to fly away when they are in the road too. Birdbrains.
