VA House Republicans vote down gun control measures after recent shootings on school

The Virgina Senate, controlled by Dems, advanced anti-2nd amendment bills. The House of Delegates stopped them cold in their tracks. One bill would have made assault weapons illegal and if you already have one (many) you couldn't do anything with it but leave it in your safe. If you have a safe.

Virginia House Republicans have voted down a range of bills that would have added new restrictions on firearms, including a ban on assault-style weapons, a college campus gun ban and a gun-storage bill that were priorities for Democrats.

The Thursday evening votes underscore that major action on gun laws is unlikely this year, given the divided control of the General Assembly.

On a 6-4 vote, a House Public Safety subcommittee defeated a bill from Democratic Del. Dan Helmer that would have expanded the definition of "assault firearm" and prohibited the import, sale, transfer, manufacture, purchase or transport of such a gun.

    kinda simple really

"The shooter is almost always male. Of the past 129 mass shootings in the United States, all but three have been men. The shooter is socially alienated, and he can’t get laid. Every time you scratch the surface of the latest mass killing, in a movie theatre, a school, the streets of Paris or an abortion clinic, you find the weaponised loser. From Jihadi John of ISIS to Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris at Columbine, these men are invariably stuck in the emotional life of an adolescent. They always struggle with self-esteem – especially regarding women – and sometimes they give up entirely on the possibility of amorous fulfilment. There are different levels of tactical coordination, different ostensible grievances and different access to firearms, but the psyche beneath is invariably the same."

Can you fill us in on all these mass shootings by 14 year olds?

Most of what I have seen are kids at or approaching 18 in the schools. So perhaps you have some numbers.

Then when you are finished with that, you can give us numbers on wacko religious cults mass shootings.

Even Waco and Ruby Ridge were crazed gunmen from the government that killed religious people simply for not living the way they wanted them to.

Now let me know if I am wrong. Give me the numbers.
    Let's go Brandon !!!

According to John Lott's research 5% of all counties in the United States account for 75% of all murders in the United States. Furthermore, additional research by Mr. Lott shows that on a per capita basis Western Europe has about 3 times the number of mass shootings than does the United States. In fact the US ranks 65th in per capita shootings.

As long as their activities do not violate the law, it is not the duty or function of the State to determine which religious groups are "wacky" or should be for any official purpose classified as "cults". (Some folks believe fundamentalist Christians or ultra-orthodox Jews fit that description.) It should go without saying that the First Amendment would also be violated by any attempt to prohibit gun ownership to citizens based on their religious beliefs.

How much individual freedom are you asking your fellow citizens to give up in order to, ostensibly, make the state more "secure"? A lot of things would make the state more "secure", including permitting police to search any house, business, vehicle or citizen without cause or notice, universal random drug testing, and police checkpoints throughout your town or city to monitor your comings and goings and either grant or deny permission for your travel.
Denying an individual the means for self protection, home security, as well as other lawful and peaceful pursuits related to firearms ownership might, in theory, make some people safer - but at the same time it would most certainly make as many if not more people less safe, or dead. It's a "solution" that most Americans don't want any part of.

Trashcan aside, how many gun control laws do we have in this country? They're clearly not working. Simply doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result is...what is the word?...Liberalism.

No, you don't understand, we need Federal gun control. Then the criminals will HAVE to obey.

It is a good thing the GOP took the House of Delegates and the governorship that election- or these crazy laws may have passed.
