He was probably bored out of his mind in a dumbed down school system.

I skipped a month in my sophomore year and didn't miss a beat.

Sure Algebra and Geometry have some life uses although trig does not for the vast majority. A little bit better writing skills that they learned in junior high
Is there enough stuff there to justify 4 years of school? Or is it simply because society doesn't know what to do with they all day?
We had to take Chemistry, Biology, at least 2 years of another language. The laugher was that we had a huge Puerto Rican population and they would take Spanish as their second language, while they were taking English as a second language.

English class for me was comprised of a pot of coffee and an English Muffin. Can ya tell?

There was a time when a High School Diploma meant something, but now more than likely it means you got shoved through the system like everybody else......Congrats!

Actually, I won't argue with you on that assessment. Although by the time we split I hated her guts I will have to say she was quite smart in her own way.

We send way too many kids to college.
High school classes designed just to get kids in college are also a waste. Teach a kid how to plumb a bathroom, or fix a car, or even work a sales desk. The bulk of what you learn in high school is erased from your memory very quickly. I have learned a lot more by reading books on various topics, learning how to do certain jobs etc. I don't mean that all of high school is unnecessary but other than "reading, writing and arithmetic" just what do you need to be functional in society?
