    About the drug war

Fentanyl deaths would be lower, total opiate deaths would be lower right now with a legal market. Think about it, our 50 year plus war on drugs has actually had a net negative effect! Taxpayer dollars at work. Not to mention all those imprisioned for drug use/low level dealing basically sent to "how to be a criminal school"
    Government screws up everything

I do think the drug war does more harm than good. This is probably one area where I disagree with most conservatives. Although I'm not entirely sure, many conservatives have been changing their mind on this. I wouldn't make Fentanyl or non-prescription opiates legal though, just decriminalize them.

You are so completely wrong it's impossible to know where to even start. In places where drugs has been legalized, the government and the drug cartels work together to maximize profits for the cartels. The government provides safe use sites and the cartels are right outside selling their vomit.

Of course the addicts using is only part of the human misery that goes along with drug use. My half sister just passed away last week. The victim of some legal drug use by her husband. They live in Colorado. A state that has legalized much drug use. My half sister was very ill with COPD and RSV. She was on oxygen with husband as caretaker. He was going to relax for a bit with psychedelic mushrooms. From prior use he knew that he $#@!s himself so he put on a diaper. The next thing he knew after a truly beautiful trip, was his diaper was full, the oxygen alarm was blaring and his wife wasn't breathing. She was rushed to the hospital but it was no use. She was gone. Husband, however, did nothing wrong. He was engaged in a perfectly legal activity. It was as innocent as falling asleep.

To all those addicts sleeping in their own $#@! on the street, do you think legalization will help them? Are you one of the deluded that imagine legalization will get them into rehab? Put the bong down. Where drugs are legal the cities are the Walking Dead.

I doubt that eliminating the war on drugs would result in less of a fentanyl problem. There will always those who try to illegal manufacture and sell certain drugs.

If the so called war on drugs was eliminated the focus of law enforcement could be placed where it belongs and not on the low level user.

They'd probably need 25-30% less and smaller prisions, less welfare., smaller courts and undertakers business would suffer a bit

The conservatives I know, Libertarians, have never backed the drug war. Yes decriminialization could help if done right. Like Portugal. The drug war has failed totally.

OK paragraph one untrue at every level. Portugal had the same problems we did in 2,000 and they decriminalized and treated drug addiction like the medical issue it is. OD's plumeted while ours skyrocketed. Real world evidence that harsh drug laws fail everyone. As for cartels, they are more active when the drug is illegal. For example alcohol and tobacco. Also those drugs are what they say they are on the label
Addicts are people with a disease NOT diseased humans. Do you know any alcoholics who got sober for example?
