I do disagree that, "everyone knows what it refers to". If you say, "everyone thinks they know what it refers to", that is closer to true. Even then, as others have stated elsewhere, it's really just a handy, vague, label of disparagement that is used recklessly in avoidance of having to substantiate ambiguous temious claims about "the left".
You mean like the word vaccine?

You mean like "Libs of TikTok? Who is disparaged by the left for merely posting videos of libs, doing lib stuff and saying lib things? There's no need to "substantiate ambiguous temious claims about "the left", your actions substantiate you every day.

What surprised me about that word is that Afram losers have been whining about being picked on ever since the 1960s. The word implies the delusion that they've been shuffling Uncle Toms all that time and have only awakened recently. So it must refer not to awareness, but to violent revolutionary tactics, dismissing the riots and massive crime as non-revolutionary because they didn't lead to a new form of government with the whiners having absolute power over the doers.

I did not. As far as I know, I only meant what I said.

Sometimes jibber jabber is interesting, but you are putting me to sleep - or unwoke, in the latest vernacular. I think I'll take the dogs for a walk.

While most online here do not read the New York Times, I thought for those interested in topic the OP below is well done. Sites like 'the Federalist' control the minds of the easily led. Another dark money site whose purpose is the destruction of America's democracy and replace it with an autocracy.

'The Right's Obsession With Wokeness Is a Sign of Weakness'

"Leonard Leo, a leader of the right-wing Federalist Society, an extraordinarily effective legal organization, is broadening his ambitions. Leo is hoping to transform American culture the way he transformed the judiciary."

"Given Leo’s past success, he should be taken seriously. As Donald Trump’s adviser on judicial nominations, he helped put Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett, all of whom have close Federalist Society ties, on the Supreme Court, making him central to the demise of Roe v. Wade. Leo has access to enormous resources; last year a conservative financier donated around $1.6 billion to a dark-money group that he controls. And since many elites resent the congeries of behavioral norms and linguistic innovations denigrated as wokeness, the Teneo Network will start from a place of strength, pushing on an open door."

    https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/10/o...oke-focus.html

"Last week at the Conservative Political Action Conference, the Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley said, "Wokeness is a virus more dangerous than any pandemic."

Given that the Covid pandemic has already killed over a million Americans, this is transparently insane, even if you find much of what falls under the rubric of wokeness annoying. Such threat inflation is best explained by the right's desperation for a unifying enemy. But to support the weight they're putting on wokeness, conservatives have had to create a hallucinatory conspiracy theory about how progressive social change works." Link above

"I have never made but one prayer to God, a very short one: 'O Lord make my enemies ridiculous.' And God granted it." Voltaire
