They didn’t go anywhere after they died. Just like everyone else.
People instinctively know right from wrong, just as they instinctively know there is a God (deep down). God is written into our hearts. All humans are under the law. That's where Chris' passage comes into play. If you are not under Jesus, you are under the law. If you don't follow the law, you are guilty. Unless you are under God's grace, under faith (the book of Romans talks a LOT about this). If you do follow the law, you are innocent, but no human follows the law. So the only salvation is through Christ's sacrifice, through faith.

Devotion to the truth is the hallmark of morality; there is no greater, nobler, more heroic form of devotion than the act of a man who assumes the responsibility of thinking.”

Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

Ah1 but is was not, it is only sufficient to those that have not heard the Law or about Jesus and Salvation, It also ties in the holy spirit as it states that it is written in their hearts.
Much like man found out what was good and what was evil after eating the fruit. It is why we can make the statements like Murder is wrong. because we know it from birth.
this is where you can't take online and try and make it everything. when the law was handed down the Jews were taught how to sacrifice to make atonement for their sins.
And once you know of the law and of the path to salvation then it is up to you to make your choice. It only gets difficult when you try to change what it is.
that is what he was talking about, From the time of Adam and Eve men had written on their hearts what was right and what was wrong, and they made choices. Because they were not given the law they did not know the path to salvation, It is why God tells us that until the gospel of Christ is taking to every corner of the earth, Christ will not return. But those that choose a path that was contrary to what they knew to be right? Well sucks to be them. Those that tried to do what they thought was right in their hearts well be judged as righteous.
