Unless you are under God's grace, under faith (the book of Romans talks a LOT about this). If you do follow the law, you are innocent, but no human follows the law. So the only salvation is through Christ's sacrifice, through faith.
    Then Jesus was unnecessary.

    this is where you can't take online and try and make it everything. when the law was handed down the Jews were taught how to sacrifice to make atonement for their sins.

    And once you know of the law and of the path to salvation then it is up to you to make your choice. It only gets difficult when you try to change what it is.
    What of all the people who died long before Jesus did his jesus-thing?

    You seem to be forgetting that the law was given only to Israel, Gentiles were not under the law, thus we divert to what was written in their hearts and how they lived their life because of that knowledge.

    Part of the prophecies surrounding Jesus, is that he woudl be rejected by the Jewish people and thus the good news would be taken to the Gentils

    Given your response Jesus was unnecessary.

    No. It was the set of verses I expected.
    Why is it inadequate?

    Romans 2: 12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law:

    and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

    13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

    14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:

    15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another

    16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

    The law was given to a tiny group of herdsmen in the middle east maybe 5,000 years ago. Before then, and even after, for the vast bulk of the human race nearly all perished without the law.

    What are the things by nature that the Gentiles might naturally do to save themselves from the eternal torture of a lake of fire? The laws given to Moses are very Jewish-god-specific.
