And they have success with pulling kids out of HS now and getting them to perform. So with a contract that size it means long term and no one is going to give that to someone they have to put through a minor league system or bench for a few years.
NBA says you can pick them young, not be too worried about long term injuries and like you said make that real difference by themselves.

Not all super stars in the NBA go into the league straight out of high school. In fact very few go into the NBA right out of high school. Most will spend some amount of time playing major college basketball.
Chances are the ones who would receive such a contract have a track record in the NBA not just high school or even college.
