Good Flashlight Recommendations?

The one I use most often is made by STKR Concepts. It is called the Flexit Pro 6.5.




My SHTF headlamp is the Fenix HL60R. It is a Dual Fuel Light that puts out 950 Lumens and has a throw of about 115 meters. It has an IPX8 rating, so weather is no issue with it.

One I recommend to a lot of people because it is very cost effective and really rugged is the Energizer Hard Case Headlamp. It runs on AAs and is armored so it makes a good camping light or emergency light to keep handy. I keep one in the center console of all my vehicles in case break down and have to do a repair or walk out of wherever I am. Not fancy, but reliable.


I looked up the specs on your Coast. That is a nice light.

The main light and the side lights can be turned on separately. They don't really have multiple brightness modes, but by holding the on button for the side lights, they are dimmable.
The main and side lights have separate switches and when you turn them on, if you want to dim them, just continue to depress the on switch until you reach the desired level of brightness. They just don't have preprogrammed levels.

I have an older model of that SureFire.

I will add that the special batteries that it uses last a very long time. I have had this for over a decade. I bought a box of batteries with it. I am still on #2. But it doesn't accept AAs as a backup. I suspect I got it before their prices were jacked up (because I wouldn't have overspent on a flashlight.)

I see a lot of people use their phones as flashlights. I guess if all you are doing is looking for your car keys after you drop them, that's okay, but I am never without a real flashlight. I have a hard time even visualizing myself without one either clipped to my pocket or in a sheath on my belt.

Four things a man should always have with him... a flashlight, a knife, a lighter and a multitool. I would include a gun, but that would spark a whole different debate.

Ollhhhh...all excellent ideas and I'm pulling them all up to compare! Thank you so much for taking the time to give me so much detailed information. I get it about the battery aspect--that's really something to consider as some of them have internal rechargeable batteries.

The Surefires have some of the highest ratings--but as you say, they're pricey prospects. So far, I really like the one you suggested -- the Fenix LD22 V2.0 -- 800 lumens, lightweight, and good ratings. And good price!

I still need to check out the Olights and Nitecore models.

It's unbelievable how many good picks are out there.

I went with a Fenix. The Fenix TK16 and it's very nice! It's bright and it shines a long distance. But, look at this--this really surprised me. When I first opened it, I couldn't figure out how to charge it--because it's rechargeable but I couldn't find a charging port.

The charging port is on the battery.

So, it has multiple modes and the brightest is super bright. The other night I shone toward the front field, and it was foggy so it kind of reflected back but it also lit up some eyes! Deer, I'm sure, but it still kind of freaked me out. I reduced the intensity, LOL.

It's very lightweight, just a few ounces, and still small enough to put in a pocket. It turns on and off with a thumb switch so it's handy to operate just by feel. It also features a strobe mode that literally splits the darkness--I can't look straight at it.

So now I'm a Fenix fan. It does get slightly warm on the highest intensity, but it's pulling a lot of juice. I'm surprised at how far batteries have come to be able to generate the intensity this flashlight has. I remember taking my dad's flashlight and it was super long and heavy. This one has a nice strong clip on the flashlight itself that I can put on a strap. I also has a canvas case, but I like the clip better.

So, thank you! I had no idea what was out there but it's impressive. I did look at the Olights, too, but something about the Fenix just resonated more with me. Look...

I'm looking to buy a good flashlight. I want it to be super bright but not super heavy--but not a tiny EDC, either. More of a tactical flashlight that's easy to turn on by feel--no super-complex dials and gizmos. Probably a belt clip. Maybe water-resistant. Don't really need a case.

I don't really need all the extra flashing features, but it's okay if it has them.

Or, at least a good brand. I'm so tired of the Chinese ones with NAMES ALL IN CAPS.

Any ideas? I've got to run, but I'll check in early tomorrow morning to see if anyone has any good ideas. I really want @Cletus to see this because he's given me super ideas in the past. ...she says as she checks the time on her ...

MAGLITE D-CELL.

A bit heavy, a great BRIGHT white light than can go from broad to tightly focused.

It is common police use, aluminum and will work as a club in a pinch.
