What I can't remember is whether she coated the slices with anything - like flour, maybe. Someone who does a lot of cooking would probably be able to figure it out. I do recall she fried them in some kind of oil, and then spread them out on paper towels to cool down a bit and let the paper towels absorb the excess oil.
