Yes, Crimea was part of Ukraine. At least we agree on that.

What we don't agree on is that one faction in a country should have the unalienable right to subvert and harm another faction.

Your illegal Mexicans/California parallel doesn't come close to being similar.

You're advocating for the genocide of Crimeans and those who live in the Donbas.

And guess what? You'll probably get your wish. After all, what are a few hundred thousands of lives compared to man-made sovereignty maintained?

Careful not to fall off that high horse, my friend.

Can we do much better YES can we let Russia run wild? NO

The Mexico / California comparison is directly on point. You don't want to admit it b/c it blows up your self-righteousness.

Please link me to a post where I advocated for the genocide of Crimeans or apologize. (and if you think Russia moving in was anything other than territorial aggression for raw materials disguised as "protecting" people, then I'm disappointed in you.)

I think it's very unlikely the US has placed US forces in places where they will engage in direct action. If anything, they probably have SF units training up new soldiers and specialists teaching them how to use and maintain equipment provided to them.

This is a dubious claim. The UN Charter allows any member to assist another member who has been invaded. The US has never officially put WWII to bed. Keep in mind, the official name of our WWII alliance was not "the allies," but rather "the United Nations." The UN Charter is a victors pact, which is why the permanent members of the UNSC (with veto power no less), are the principal alliance partners during WWII.

What is legally far more dubious is having combat troops in Syria, for example.

That won't happen, because the Democrats are trying to put up their own black face to get passed Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice.

How so? The US did this throughout the 19th Century, particularly in Texas, California, and Hawaii.

Russia didn't have the consent of the extant government, and the United States did. Annexing territory is a violation of the UN Charter.

It's more similar than you think. A lot of ethnic Russians were put into Ukraine to work in heavy industry under the Soviet Union. They aren't the majority, but they are a significant plurality.

That depends on what you mean by genocide. The term has acquired quite some elasticity in recent decades. "Ethnic cleansing" was a term invented to get around the requirement of Wester powers to intervene in genocides such as the Tutsi/Hutu fiasco in the 1990s. I think, in practical terms, you need to have the right skin color or ethnicity for "genocide" to apply these days.
