    Weight loss: it’s just calories in/calories out… isn’t it?

Of course not. But in general it is the starting point for almost all. Make controlling calories out v. calories in a habit and then come back for the details below.

    Weight loss: it’s just calories in/calories out… isn’t it?

Weight loss is just about calories in and calories out, right? We’ve all heard this a lot, and after all it’s simple physics. You take calories into your body, and you use them in the course of daily living and exercise. If there’s a surplus you store it, if there’s a deficit you lose weight. Simple. And trivially, it’s even true. But it’s actually a lot more complicated that, to the point where such a simplistic maxim can be cruelly misleading.

Yes it ultimately does boil down to caloric intake and discharge.

...but, the body's response to carbs is different compared to fat and protein.

Key difference is insulin response. Insulin take blood sugar out of the blood by having it packaged into fat cells.

Eat fewer carbs and you will lose weight if your not eating like a horse when you're not training like one.

Never seen a fat lion before, not in the wild. Then again, never seen a fat wolf either. Because they aren't being stuffed with grains to bulk up their food. They eat fat and protein primarily.

Cows? Eat vegetation and get fatter.

Humans are omnivorous. Meant to eat both. Some bodies respond better to certain diets than others depending on ancestry.

This whole "meat is bad and plants are good" religion is just a covert way to get people fat, sick, and dependent so they are more easily manipulated, controlled, and eventually exterminated.

For me it's about a deit that gives me the best chance to limit calories and that, generally, is low in grains and processed carbs

If cutting carbs allows you achieve a sustainable deficit, go for it. That said, I don't think limiting any macro nutrient is necessary in principle.

The key really is you have to keep your muscle mass so that you don't become skinny fat

True. The weight training stimulus is crucial.
