I bought a course on classic literature. I haven't decided if I will stick with it but it looks interesting. The first book I must read is Moll Flanders. I will start shortly.
Oh, what is a classic? Once clever individual said a classic is any book I should have read but didn't.

It basically means a work of fiction that has redeeming social value and remains popular over time.

I've read Crime and Punishment, Notes from the Underground and The Possessed. I should read Brothers Karamazov.

I'm going to venture a guess that Fielding's 'Tom Jones' is next on the reading list? It should be interesting to see what is chosen from Dickens.
I went into a Goodwill in Scottsdale a couple of months ago and someone who was REALLY into Dickens, on a scholarly level, must have passed away, because there were easily 300 hardcover books about Dickens and his writing. An entire shelf of bound volumes of published Dickens scholarship, some books more than 125 years old - just an amazing, very specialized library. Entire bookcases filled with nothing but writing about Dickens, but, oddly, hardly any of the books that he wrote. I bought three books whose authors sought to either complete or simply to write about Dickens' unfinished last book, 'The Mystery of Edwin Drood'.
