After Idaho’s Strict Abortion Ban, OB-GYNs Stage a Quick Exodus

The effects of the ban are being felt statewide. In Boise, the state capital, Lauren Miller, an OB-GYN, resigned earlier this month from her position at one of the state’s largest hospitals, St. Luke’s Health System, further shrinking the state’s already minuscule corps of maternal fetal medicine specialists.

As a doctor who cares for complex and high-risk cases, Miller said, she’s had to send patients out of state to end dangerous pregnancies, including a woman with a serious kidney disease.

“I could very easily have taken care of that patient along with my partners,” she said, noting that the Boise-based medical center has kidney specialists and an intensive care unit. “Instead, she had to leave her family and fly several more hours away to receive care in an expeditious time frame. It’s just not what we signed up to do.”

Funny thing is that OB-GYN are almost exclusively the doctors that perform abortions.

The new legislation makes helping a pregnant minor get an abortion, whether through medication or a procedure, in another state punishable by two to five years in prison. Gov. Brad Little, a Republican, signed the bill on Wednesday night, and it goes into effect after 30 days.

Abortion has been banned at all stages of pregnancy in Idaho since August — a result of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. Terminating a pregnancy is illegal in the state unless it saves the life of the mother or in cases of rape and incest in which the survivor has reported the incident to law enforcement.

The sad thing is that normally I would feel for these woman and hope that some backtracking would take place. But instead I am extremely cautious because of the amount of absolutely evil liars and violent criminals behind the pro-abortion lobby that we have seen ready to lie under oath or do whatever they feel is necessary.

Can I get abortion in Texas if I have a life-threatening pregnancy?

Yes. Texas’ ban on abortion makes exceptions for cases in which an abortion would save the pregnant patient’s life or prevent “substantial impairment of major bodily function.”

The cases I read about involved some rare unusual diagnoses that can be easily added as exceptions. This is what, 0.01% of cases?

In the other room, mom didn’t want it. She’s like, “No, just get rid of it.” And what did I do? I broke her water and pitted out the baby [administered Pitocin to induce labor].

Now the baby comes out and I lift it. And usually when a baby’s born alive in an abortion, we suffocate it [by not assisting breathing].

But it felt a little heavy. I threw the baby on the scale and lo and behold, 505 grams [over the legal limit, requiring life-saving treatment], I had to call the intensive care nursery. In walks Dr. Debbie Plum [from the NICU team], she takes one look and says, “Hey John, you’re better than this. Stop treating my patients as tumors.”
