One reason I prefer a voluntary standing military is that the call to duty implies you leave some measure of your personal life and priorities behind to serve your country. There is a job to do and your personal lifestyle is not it.

It is the one portion of American life where a measure of conformity and collectivism must take place in terms of unity and mission goals.

I imagine the Chinese Navy showing this to their sailors and telling them that this is who you will be fighting. It should give them great confidence.

You can bet the Chinese have very strict standards and there should not be any alleged Right to serve in the Military in any circumstance. And by that I don't mean "No Gays" I am saying disruptive self important sexual behavior is out.

That is in no way true. The hype and panic over this "story" is reminiscent of what happened a short while back when a General made some remark about whatever his branch of the military was - Marines, I think - looking to focus on recruiting (paraphrasing) more brains and less brawn - in other words, those with technical skills, but who might not necessarily fit the super-macho physical profile. You'd have thought the sky was falling, from the reaction among some. Our military hasn't forgotten anything with regard to its mission, and it certainly isn't "destroying itself".

The military needs brains and brawn. You don't have to be "super macho" you just have to be patriotic and have commitment, dedication and a willingness to fight when necessary.

Ads like these aren't giving out that message. Inclusion is one thing but using a man in lipstick to be the face of the military is nothing short of ridiculous.

I can see the morale of shipboard life going down the toilet if this is allowed to flourish. A ship is a very small space with no privacy. While I am sure a portion of the crew will just say live and let live there will be a lot more who will not tolerate a deranged shipmate sharing a berthing space with them.

Instability in people of the armed services gives your the Chelsea Manning's and Bowie Bergdahl's that we have seen.
I know that looking stable does not guarantee mental stability but allowing in the unstable, is just an invitation for problems.

Definitely not the kind of role modeling the military needs. You'd think the military would be the one place to get away from this woke madness, but they've even infiltrated there. I wonder how much Chinese influence is behind this?

The military is forgetting what it’s true mission is and destroying itself.

The only purpose of the military is to kill people and break things. It is not to create an "inclusive" environment for its members where all members can just "be themselves". Any military unit is not a collection of individuals but one cohesive entity that does what it is told to do when it is told to do it. Nowhere is that more true then on any Naval vessel. There is a reason that military uniforms, other than insignia, are the same for every member of that branch. It is to instill in its members you are all part of the whole and cannot be separated out.
