And that's because it became a propaganda/political war with Americans turning on themselves. We see that going on today and the consequences of that defeat, as with Afghanistan, will reverberate for years to come.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'Soft Power". Peter. The UN, which was designed to end World Wars in a cooperative setting, has been coopted by Communists, Fascists. the WEF and others, with a steady erosion of human rights and freedoms. It is a forum for dictatorships which get a lot of power they don't deserve.

The idea of an "Anglosphere" has been around for a while as has The British Commonwealth- now the Commonwealth of Nations -and to become a member the applicants must follow the Democratic principals which has led to our successes. Free trade and human rights, as well as other advantages would, I believe, encourage other Nations to become involved while countries like China would be frozen out.

Soft Power Peter....sanctioning of adversaries, diplomacy, covert rather than overt, it's the speak softly and even softer while feeling no need to carry your big stick.

    I believe--quite emphatically--in carrying a big stick.

It seems that ever since the invention of the atomic bomb--and now, the nuclear bomb--many people are scared witless (yes, that rhymes with something else that seems appropriate here) about the threat of "hard" power.

    But the Chinese are not.

And I thoroughly believe that the Chinese leadership should be met with exactly the same thing--and to the same degree, also--that they mete out.

I think Trump had them pegged.

Soft power is a basic definition in geopolitics. If you don't know what it is, you are not prepared to discuss geopolitics.

Soft power often expresses itself as a big stick.

Do you believe that Mainland China intends to use "soft" power to take over Taiwan?

I believe they intend to be Number One in many different areas--including hard power.

We need to ensure that this simply does not happen--regardless of the consequences for doing so.

Perhaps you're right. Ransom kindly offered the definition.

The CCP is public about what they want with regards to Taiwan.

Yes, soft power is their preferred option.

If that doesn't work they claim they will use force- hard power.

I agree the US should hold the line along the First Island Chain. The map should have Taiwan as part of that line. Use your imagination.
