Government believes it owns your thoughts.

In a case Missouri v Biden discovery uncovered hat government considers your thoughts ‘cognitive infrastructure’ and government has the right to control it.

    Talk about Orwellian.
When Donald Trump said to protest “peacefully”, he meant violence.

When he told protesters to “go home”, he meant stay for an insurrection.

And when he told Brad Raffensperger to implement “whatever the correct legal remedy is”, he meant fraud.

    War is peace.

    Freedom is slavery.

    Ignorance is strength.

The entire basis of the allegation stems from classification of the "Information Technology Sector" as one of sixteen Critical Infrastructures by the CISA, an agency with the Department of Homeland Security.

It is alleged that government officials have threatened social media outlets regarding their failure to "censor" material that the official in question believes is potentially harmful to the public in some way. Republican efforts to combat this perceived First Amendment violation have the potential to backfire badly.

What I read seemed to be about discovery: The court several times ruled the feds must provide documents and testimony in discovery and the feds are resisting court orders. Great transparency.

A quick read (thanks for the links) says that social media et al can be used to limit what is available for people to read based on someone's discretion. What would make us believe that it is also not done with other media sources? Since print is fading away, anything on line can and will be manipulated to cause the desired effect. And this may not be a single direction, since the 'voice of reason' will change from time to time.

There is no actual ownership of 'intellectual infrastructure' other than the person who created it. You can put legal limits on the 'printed' material or physical goods, but not on thought.

While efforts - by anyone - to limit expression in the public square bear watching, such efforts so frequently appear to be one-sided and inconsistent. You and I might differ on what is harmful, detrimental or even dangerous in the way of public expression, and what should therefore be unlawful - but personal opinions and subjective judgments can't be the rule. Whether the "speech" being promoted or constrained involves vaccine mandates, climate change, bomb-making or the home addresses of cops, partisan politics can't be a factor. Muzzling one viewpoint or type of information while advocating that others be allowed or even promoted is hypocritical, to say the least.
