The object of desire of some members of the political class is to achieve office and stay there. In our system of legalized bribery they must establish relationships with Rich donors to do so.
Who's Rich donors are concerned mainly with increasing their already substantial wealth. Therefore they support politicians who will keep taxes low.
In addition those who are in the pharmaceutical industry or in polluting industries support politicians who will enhance their revenue whether that enhancement is moral and legitimate or not.
Now in order to achieve and maintain a hold on office the political class members need to support of right-wing voters
The support of those voters is obtained through fear tactics used by the right-wing media. The right wing media machine is basically an atrocity story mechanism. Daily the right wing media come up with new outrages to maintain the fear response in their constituents
This distracts the constituents from the fact that they are being overtaxed and that the rich are being under taxed and that the social safety net in the United States is inadequate for what is necessary and desirable for citizens.
They also play the race card heavily,concentrating on stories about black people murdering each other and murdering white people and so forth.

The country is basically being run by oligarchs. They see their influence waning as the rightist population declines with white supremacists holding a decreasing minority in the country
There are some politicians who are people of good faith, trying to do the best they can for their constituents regardless of the desires of their contributors from the ranks of the rich.
But a large segment of the Democrats and virtually all the Republicans in Congress are executing the will of the oligarchs. As their control slips away they are getting desperate hence their attempts to overthrow the government.
The oligarchs don't care if the country is fascist as long as taxes are low.

The Democrats at this time are trying to force businesses to hire people that are not qualified because of their Sexual Preference, and trying to indoctrinate young school children into believing and accepting any sexual perversion as Normal. They are making policies that make it hard for some to succeed, while giving others so much money that they can't fail. They are telling banks who they should loan money too. And even trying to control the food that we eat. All under the threat of the power of the federal government.

But these are the same people that are telling the party that is trying to protect our Children from sexual content, and trying to give people more of the money that they earn, that we are the ones that are the threat to freedom.

Billion dollar tax breaks for morbidly rich billionaires is not giving people more of what they earn. They do not earn their money they have it invested in investments that are recommended to them by investment advisors. It's a great racket.

The tax revenue has grown every year, when they say that they lost tax revenue, it is projected. And in Economics, projections are rarely actually accurate.

For instance, say that they measure how much tax revenue there will be if they taxed at a higher rate. They take all the income and add the percentages, leading to a higher figure. But the problem is that it might not take into account the amount of people that would not be working if taxes were higher. Because higher taxes means less money for people to spend. Less money means the demand drops. Now companies don't need as many workers. So, less are working and therefore not paying taxes. Etc etc...


I wouldn't put too much stock on that phrase.
