    Question Electric string trimmers- recommendations?

Looking to replace a string trimmer that I’d had for years and was leaning towards electric. Anybody have one? Wife has a Dewalt blower for the patio so I was thinking maybe it is wise to stay with the same brand bc of battery compatibility. Ego has a quick load feature and is highly recommended.

Anyone have any thoughts or recommendations?

I've switch to all electric cordless. I use Ryobi but any brand that allows you to use a battery in multiple tools is good.

Also, definitely go with the straight shaft ones as you can get more attachments.

Stick with DeWalt 20V and you can swap in their new PowerStack batteries that fit all their 20V tools and chargers. More power, less weight.

Don't waste your money on Ryobi--that's The Home Depot's low-line flagship brand. For the most part--it's junk.

The Home Depot has a higher flagship brand--Ridgid, which is made by the same manufacturers as Milwaukee.

Whatever you do--invest in decent amp hours with the batteries. For a string trimmer, you'll need 5Ah, unless you have a tiny yard. Still, I wouldn't go under 3Ah.

It is like the old VCR days. These tools come out of the same factories in China.

Buy the one you like. Lowes, Home Depot... went around the brand names to the same sources. Suddenly you saw Kobalt, Red Devil and all these new store brands show up.

Chervon (EGO) is just straight from the China factory(s) brand for outdoor tools.

Here is one difference. Dewalt has a massive QC program to assure quality once the parts or units come to the USA to protect the label. Their Black and Decker brands QC was the box had to have something in it.

So your Dewalt products are less likely to give you problems because the manufacturer in China or wherever they are, know they are being checked and they know entire lots are coming back if they are not right.

The Chervon (EGO) products have no stateside check.

Dewalt also supports their legacy products. So finding that replacement battery is going to be possible in 5 years. Dewalt has a brand name to protect.

Ryobi never did create a good following in the USA. One of the plants I set up in Mexico was nearby their facility in Nogales. They kept shutting down for months at a time for lack of work.

I bought a cheapy brand electric string trimmer. I didn't want to pay a lot for something I might not like. Normally I would never buy electric because that's just not how I roll. But I had no idea what I was missing, even the cheapy brands work great. I think they are so much easier to use. They are so much lighter and well starting them is a breeze. I'm not sure I could use one now because of my health, but all last summer I was able to trim up my yard and was so happy that I could do it without asking someone to start it for me because I can't pull the cord on the gas ones hard enough to start one. For me it was a game changer. I would say just go for one of the good trusted brands and you should be fine.
