Full disclosure - I did not read all of the posts above. But I think this may be relevant... in the eyes of the law, a marriage contract is a contract. Contracts are a means of defining agreements between people, so that if the contract is defaulted on, the damaged participant has something to rationally base damages on.

Marriage contracts are not meant a means to impose other peoples' moral or religious fefe's on people.

I didn't sign a contract.

I had a Priest marry us 39 years ago. It was not a government official.
My Marriage license was not a contract. It just said that I took a blood test and they logged us in a book at city hall as completing their requirements of giving them money.

Now a pre-nup counts as a contract to me. But I had nothing to protect.

Earlier, it was said 37 states were issuing same-sex marriage licenses by the time of the 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges decision.

Per Local laws prior to Obergefell v. Hodges which details those 37 states:

• 12 states had legalized it by state legislature, initiative statute, or referendum
• 6 had had it decided by state courts
• 4 had had it decided by federal courts then by legislature
• 15 had had it decided by federal courts

That hardly represents any sort of consensus by the people.

None of my business but I am morbidly curious. Did you meet your wife via a Yoga session or go old school and simply take her away from someone else ?
