    Texas Rangers vs. Comanche Raiders

A fairly accurate and detailed history of the Comanche and Rangers at this time. I live on what was then the edge of civilization where Texians barely held on and the Comanche ruled to the West. Uvalde Canyon is maybe an hour and a shelf away.

For an even more detailed and well-written history of the Comanche and the Rangers and the times, read S. C. Gwynne's Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History.

I am shocked, shocked I tell you, to my very core that this forum allows such racist slurs to be published in full view of women and children. The people slaughtered by the white supremist Texas Rangers were not "Indians". They weren't "Native Americans" They were the noble and peace loving "indigenous peoples". Furthermore, the offspring of the vile and vicious Texas Rangers should be stripped of their citizenship immediately .

Your comment about Texas reminded me of a passage in Washington Irving's Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Tennessee and Kentucky are referred to as "Godforsaken" places. It made me think about the 'frontier" and how it changed over time. Growing up, the term always brought the western half of what is now the USA to mind but it was interesting to consider the fact that, at one time the frontier was actually Kentucky, Tennessee and Ohio.
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

And before that the Atlantic where some thought you'd fall off the edge.

And now the frontier is, what, outer space, or inner mind?

Well, Captain Kirk did refer to outer space as "The New Frontier"

The towns in the West were small, you would have to judge them on a per capita basis.

Some were quite safe: guns were confiscated by the Sheriff or marshal. Others were dangerous from time to time.
