    Nuclear Subs Obsolete Now

... and way more expensive than the newer technologies available for a fraction of the costs. Air independent technology has superseded nuclear powered subs. the article I read is behind a pay wall, but this old article is about the new tech.

Nuclear-powered submarines have traditionally held a decisive edge in endurance, stealth and speed over cheaper diesel submarines. However, new Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) technology has significantly narrowed the performance gap on a new generation of submarines that cost a fraction of the price of a nuclear-powered boat.

It has progressed further in the last 7 years since this article.

Don't know, but I would think pretty much all but the life support for astronauts in space is 'air independent'.

The first article may be interesting to read, but paywall.

The second article is a good reminder to what we already know. Although the question really is not whether sub-detection tech will advance and be able to detect current sub stealth tech, but whether advances in sub-detection tech will outpace advances in sub stealth tech.

But the same tension exists everywhere. A big area is offensive v defensive tactics and tech.
